Response D20
The ProAc Response D20 is a floor-standing loudspeaker and one of the company’s most successful Response Series designs.
It is available in two versions: the D20D with a dome tweeter and the D20R with a ribbon tweeter. The cabinet measures 978mm high on its spikes, 193mm wide and 282mm deep, with each speaker weighing 24kg. Its cabinet employs the same style of bass loading used in ProAc’s D30S and D48, helping make the speaker easier to position while delivering substantial bass, an open and expansive midrange and a large soundstage.
The Response D20 uses a ProAc 165mm (6.5-inch) bass/midrange driver featuring a glass-fibre weave cone, Excel magnet system and a unique acrylic damping phase plug. The D20D version is fitted with a ProAc 25mm (1-inch) silk-dome tweeter with air cooling, inner damping and a mirror-image offset arrangement. Alternatively, the D20R uses ProAc’s lightweight ribbon tweeter with rear-chamber damping and an Alnico magnet.
The Response D20 has a frequency response of 28Hz–33kHz, a sensitivity of 88.5dB at 1W/1m and a nominal impedance of 8 ohms. ProAc recommends amplifiers rated between 20 and 180 watts. Its crossover uses high-quality components mounted on a dedicated circuit board, with multistrand oxygen-free copper cable throughout. The crossover is split to support optional bi-wiring or bi-amplification.
The D20 is supplied with an acoustically transparent Crimplene grille, and ProAc currently states that magnetic grilles are available on all finishes. Standard finishes are Black Ash, Mahogany, Cherry, Natural Oak and Walnut, while Liquidambar, Rosewood and Ebony are available as premium finishes to order at additional cost
