Response D48
The ProAc Response D48 is a large, slim floor-standing loudspeaker positioned at the top of ProAc’s Response range.
Developed following a year of research and development, it was designed to improve midrange detail while delivering cleaner, faster and more extended bass. The cabinet measures 1200mm high on spikes, 212mm wide and 340mm deep, with each speaker weighing 39kg. Its floor-loading system uses side vents for the two bass drivers, making the D48 less sensitive to its surroundings and easier to position within a listening room.
The Response D48 uses two ProAc 165mm (6.5-inch) Studio Monitor-design bass/midrange drivers with specially impregnated and coated cones and tuned dust caps. The drivers are designed to combine strong bass control with increased midrange detail. Each driver is individually loaded through ProAc’s floor-loading arrangement, contributing to the speaker’s tight, extended low-frequency response and ability to reproduce large-scale music with a spacious soundstage and precise imaging.
Two tweeter configurations are available. The D48D features a ProAc 25mm (1-inch) silk-dome tweeter with air cooling and inner damping in a mirror-image offset arrangement. The D48R instead uses ProAc’s lightweight ribbon tweeter, featuring a ribbon diaphragm lighter than a human hair, rear-chamber damping and an Alnico magnet. The crossover uses high-quality components on a dedicated circuit board with multistrand oxygen-free copper cable throughout and is split to support optional bi-wiring and bi-amplification.
The Response D48 has a frequency response of 20Hz–30kHz, a sensitivity of 90dB at 1W/1m and a nominal impedance of 4 ohms. ProAc recommends amplifiers rated between 10 and 250 watts. Its twin bass/midrange drivers, floor-loading arrangement and high sensitivity allow it to reproduce everything from large orchestral works to rock music with substantial scale, dynamics and controlled bass.
The D48 is supplied with an acoustically transparent Crimplene grille. ProAc states that magnetic grilles are available on all finishes except Silk White. Standard finishes are Black Ash, Mahogany, Cherry, Silk White, Natural Oak and Walnut, while Liquidambar, Rosewood and Ebony are available as premium finishes to order at additional cost.
