Response DT8
The ProAc Response DT8 is an entry-level floor-standing loudspeaker in ProAc’s Response range, developed around an unusual two-way configuration that combines two different bass/midrange cone materials.
The cabinet measures 978mm high on its spikes, 193mm wide and 229mm deep, with each speaker weighing 26kg. Its ported enclosure uses side vents for bass loading, helping produce an extended low-frequency response while retaining the natural midrange and precise imaging associated with ProAc loudspeakers.
The Response DT8 uses two 165mm (6.5-inch) bass/midrange drivers working in tandem. One features a Pagina Mica cone with an open-weave dust cap and is primarily responsible for delivering powerful, extended bass, while the second uses a polypropylene cone with a soft polypropylene dust cap to provide a smooth, detailed and uncoloured midrange. Combining the different cone materials allows each driver to exploit its particular strengths across the frequency range.
High frequencies are handled by a ProAc 25mm (1-inch) silk-dome tweeter positioned off-centre between the two bass/midrange drivers. A specially designed Stewart Tyler crossover integrates the different driver materials and overlapping frequency ranges. The crossover uses a glass-fibre circuit board, high-quality components and multistrand copper wiring, with support for both bi-wiring and bi-amplification.
The Response DT8 has a frequency response of 28Hz–30kHz, a sensitivity of 90dB at 1W/1m and a nominal impedance of 4 ohms. ProAc recommends amplifiers rated between 20 and 180 watts. These specifications, combined with its twin-driver arrangement and side-vented bass loading, give the DT8 the ability to deliver substantial low-frequency output and dynamics while maintaining clarity through the midrange.
The DT8 is supplied with an acoustically transparent Crimplene grille, with magnetic grilles available on certain finishes. Standard finishes are Black Ash, Mahogany, Cherry, Natural Oak, Silk White and Walnut, while Liquidambar, Rosewood and Ebony are available as premium finishes to order at additional cost.
