Studio SM100
The ProAc Studio SM100 is a stand-mount loudspeaker developed as the successor to the original Studio 100, a model that remained in production for more than 20 years and became widely used as a near-field monitor in professional studios.
The SM100 retains the cabinet dimensions of the original while introducing updated drivers and crossover components. Measuring 406mm high, 203mm wide and 254mm deep, and weighing 12kg per speaker, it combines studio-monitor accuracy with ProAc’s emphasis on musical reproduction. Stand mounting is recommended, although shelf mounting is possible when required.
The Studio SM100 uses a ProAc 165mm (6.5-inch) treated-cone bass/midrange driver fitted with a rubber surround for improved longevity and power handling and mounted in a ProAc-designed basket. High frequencies are handled by a ProAc 25mm (1-inch) silk-dome tweeter featuring a special front plate designed to reduce distortion and a roll surround.
The crossover was developed to retain the character of the original Studio 100 while providing a slightly smoother presentation suited to extended listening sessions and near-field monitoring. It uses high-quality components mounted on a dedicated circuit board, with multistrand oxygen-free copper cable throughout, and is split to support optional bi-wiring and bi-amplification.
The Studio SM100 has a frequency response of 35Hz–30kHz, a sensitivity of 88dB at 1W/1m and a nominal impedance of 8 ohms. ProAc recommends amplifiers rated between 30 and 150 watts. These specifications allow the SM100 to serve both domestic hi-fi and professional monitoring applications, with an emphasis on accuracy, smoothness and comfortable long-term listening.
The speaker is supplied with an acoustically transparent Crimplene grille and is currently available in Cherry or Black Ash finishes.
