The Wharfedale Denton 1S is a modern reinterpretation of the classic Denton 1 from the 1970s, combining the brand’s heritage with contemporary acoustic engineering
Designed as a compact standmount loudspeaker, it retains the musical character that made the original popular while introducing an all-new cabinet, driver technology and crossover design for today’s listening environments.
At the heart of the Denton 1S is a newly developed coaxial drive unit, placing a 25mm soft-dome tweeter concentrically within a 165mm polypropylene mid/bass driver. This point-source arrangement allows sound to radiate from a single acoustic centre, delivering precise imaging, excellent focus and a coherent, natural presentation across a wide listening area.
The cabinet has been carefully engineered to minimise unwanted resonance through the use of a rigid, internally braced construction. A rear-firing bass reflex port extends low-frequency performance, while a rear-mounted Brilliance switch lets listeners optimise the treble balance when the speakers are positioned close to a wall or in more open spaces.
Despite its compact dimensions, the Denton 1S is designed to produce a spacious, balanced and controlled sound with impressive bass depth for its size. Tuned by Wharfedale’s Director of Acoustic Design, Peter Comeau, the speaker focuses on natural tonal balance, long-term listening comfort and an engaging musical performance rather than exaggerated hi-fi effects.
Available in matte black, white and blue finishes, the Denton 1S blends classic Wharfedale styling with a contemporary aesthetic.
