The Rega Nd9 is the flagship model in Rega’s Nd moving magnet cartridge range, engineered to deliver exceptional tracking accuracy, detail retrieval and high-frequency performance. Hand-made by Rega’s skilled technicians, it combines advanced generator technology with a boron cantilever and Rega’s most advanced Fine Line nude diamond stylus profile.
The Fine Line stylus uses a monocrystalline man-made diamond with an exceptionally small profile, featuring a minor radius of just 3 microns and a vertical radius of 30 microns. Its small contact area allows the stylus to respond rapidly to fine variations in the record groove, retrieving an impressive level of musical detail.
A lightweight and highly rigid boron rod cantilever helps the Nd9 react quickly to changes in the vinyl surface while minimising unwanted flex and distortion. The stylus and cantilever technology draws on Rega’s experience with its reference Aphelion 2 moving coil cartridge, bringing high-end engineering to a moving magnet design.
At the heart of the Nd9 is a Neodymium N55 magnet and newly developed generator geometry designed for excellent symmetry and accurate channel balance. Miniaturised parallel coils are wound in-house using 38-micron wire with 1,275 turns, creating a low-inductance, low-impedance generator for improved high-frequency response. An optimised pole gap also enhances linearity and crosstalk characteristics to produce a wider, more precisely defined soundstage.
The cartridge assembly is housed in a highly rigid, lightweight glass-filled polyphenylene sulphide (PPS) body. Its low mass helps reduce stress on the tonearm bearings and allows freer movement during playback. Rega’s three-point mounting system provides secure and accurate installation on compatible Rega tonearms.
The Nd9 has a nominal output voltage of 5–6 mV and a recommended tracking pressure of 1.75 g. Specifications include a Fine Line nude diamond stylus, boron cantilever, Neodymium magnet, miniaturised parallel coils, three-point fixing for Rega tonearms and an amber window. The cartridge is also available as a factory-fitted option on the Rega Planar 8 turntable.
